Requirements for the Greek Major

(1) Elementary Language Courses

Either Greek 1, 2 or Greek 15, Summer Workshop

(2) Basic Reading Courses

  • Greek 100 Plato and Attic Prose
  • Greek 101 Homer
  • Greek 102 Drama and Society

(3) Senior Reading Courses

Four courses from Greek 115-123

  • Greek 115 Archaic Poetry
  • Greek 116 Greek Drama
  • Greek 117 Hellenistic Poetry
  • Greek 120 Herodotus
  • Greek 121 Thucydides
  • Greek 122 Attic Oratory
  • Greek 123 Plato, Aristotle

(4) Classics 10A and 10B

To be completed, if possible, by the end of the Junior year. (Under exceptional circumstances, the undergraduate advisor may authorize substitution of Classics 100A for 10A, or 100B for 10B.)

 

(5) One additional upper division course from the list of recommended courses (see below).

Normally 52 units in the major, 32 of which are upper division.*
