This course covers Homeric and Classical Greece, the world of the Hebrew Bible (Old Testament), Rome in its transition from republic to empire, and the New Testament. The course will meet in small groups for discussion. Lectures, discussions, and reading assignments will involve interdisciplinary approaches with an emphasis on the development of skill in writing. Satisfies either half of the Reading and Composition requirement plus one of the following Letters and Science breadth requirements: Arts and Literature, Historical Studies, or Social Sciences. 5 units.
