The Unclassical Homer invites us to rethink Homer and The Odyssey beyond their traditional place in the classical canon. This event explores the “unmaking” of a singular, authoritative Homer, asking instead how the figure of Homer emerges across multiple voices, histories, and interpretations.

How has The Odyssey been reshaped in postclassical contexts—from contemporary theory to art and culture? And what happens when we challenge the idea of Homer as a fixed origin?

Featuring brief presentations by James Porter and Mario Telò, followed by a conversation, this event examines how Homer continues to be reimagined, contested, and transformed.
