Long description: In this class, we will read in ancient Greek and discuss one tragedy by Euripides (Medea, Hippolytus, Heracles, and The Bacchae are all likely candidates). We will also read and discuss several more tragedies translated into English, as well as select pieces of modern scholarship. Written exercises will include midterm examinations, short essays, and a final examination.
